Welcome to Cambridge

Cambridge, which was named in honor of the University of Cambridge in England, is home to two of the most prominent universities in the world; Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Separated from Boston by the Charles River, Cambridge has a population of over 100,000 people, making it the 5th most populous city in the state.

Cambridge has been called by many the “City of Squares,” as most of its commercial districts are at major street intersections. These squares include Kendall Square, which is just over the Longfellow Bridge from Boston and is the location of most of Cambridge’s large office towers and headquarters to many of the world’s top biotechnology companies.

Harvard Square is at the intersection of Brattle Street and Massachusetts Avenue, is at the center of the Harvard campus community, and has many popular shops and restaurants to its credit. Other squares include Porter Square, Inman Square, Lechmere Square, and Central Square, each with its own identity.

Architecturally, Cambridge has many distinct housing styles, ranging from the Victorian mansions found in the Huron and Harvard Square sections of town to rowhouses and multi-family homes which can be found in Central Square to newly developing residential neighborhoods.
